A SHORT BREAK FROM DRAWING
I hope my backers will forgive me, but I decided to take a short break from coloring & lettering Dangerous Curves/MAVRIX for the last 2-3 days to finish our new office. I’d been putting it off, only working on the renovation a few hours here or there while juggling work on the comic, but I realized that we really needed to hunker down and get the renovation done and out of the way so I could focus 100% on the crowdfunded books.
Below is a quick shot I took with my phone during a break. We set up our media TV(which will be wall-mounted soon)—MOTU Stinkor for size comparison—and started moving some stuff in.
The office is pretty much done now. All that needs to be done is for us to move the rest of the stuff in, build our PCs and start working. Computer tables are built, slat walls ready to mount, lighting set up, .etc. My monitor arrives in a few days.
I have my microphone ready to install as soon as the computers are built and then my son and I(mostly my son) start putting together some video content for the YouTube channel. Speaking of which…
TO VEGAS FOR TREASURE!
To reward my son for all of his hard work over the last few months in helping me renovate the space and get it work-ready, I’m taking him to Vegas on Monday for a little shopping spree. We’re going to Best Buy in hopes of getting a CPU for his rig and a sound system. I’d love to also be able to get a RTX 3080 GPU for my new rig, even if I had to pay around $12-1400, but I think even that isn’t doable.
After Best Buy we’re going to a few Barnes and Nobles to shop for some mangas. This will be the focus of our first proper YT video: “A lifelong comic book fan shops for manga!” Something like that. I already have the thumbnail sorted for it…
If you’ve not yet subbed, feel free to go here:
For a series recommendation, have you heard of FIRE FORCE?
Something I noticed in some of the comics I read since 2015: Many comics are author inserts, as well as legacy makers, and/or "fixes" to long-time characters.
> Stark was temporarily replaced by 15 yo Riri Williams, who stole his armor specs to make her own but had no real consequences from the theft and actually going into a war zone to conquer a foreign state. But Stark came back to life after death/coma bcuz the title book. Now Cantwell can't write Stark well, shaming Tony in his own title for being rich.
> Thor is a thunder god who fought monsters and super mortals to save lives bcuz he felt a resonance to humanity, and their determinism as a race to overcome challenges as singular or collective. Rendered Unworthy with a phrase and goes on a roundabout quest to prove himself "worthy" again, rendering all past heroism moot. Jane/Thor fought an evil oil tycoon supervillain as her prime enemy for her duration as Thunder goddess.
> Cap was replaced by a Hydra agent, was actually a good read, but the ending was full-on reworked to him getting rez'd by cosmic cube in a new body. Technical clone? Anyway, his own book was just a long punch down on why America now and always sucks, how Wakanda is better, and he doesn't even think the dream still lives.
The only good title IMHO is Amazing Spider-Man after Spencer replaced Slott, but only bcuz of retconning out the really REALLY bad past storylines. Even if the "devil did it" trope is getting overplayed now in Marvel. Especially on Avengers and Iron Man for god only knows why.
I stopped reading DC after Bendis came on, and I was right bcuz he force aged Clark's son into a 17yo young man. F*** Bendis. I wanted to see Clark raise his son, maybe have a second child along the way. THAT was what I wanted to see in Superman.
